The choice doesn’t stop at getting the right viscosity – there is then different specifications and additives within 5w-30 as it is the most popular specification.
The main different gradings are C1, C2, C3, C4 then whether the oils you require are low SAPS or long life –and this is all specified for you by what car you have.
The low SAPS (sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur) oils are developed for emission control in DPFs (diesel particulate filters) and the long life is developed to help prolong service intervals.
A popular 5w-30 oil is Granville FSV 5w-30 fully synthetic long life engine oil which is recommended for Volkswagen VW 504.00/507.00 BMW LL-04 Mercedes MB 229.51 and Porsche C30.
